JoyaBrava is a non-profit trade union association that gathers more than 30 contemporary Chilean jewellers, who work the jewellery as a means of artistic expression,  investigating and experimenting with materials, concepts and processes.

MELINA RAPIMAN

Los Andes, 1977. From a mapuche father and an African descent Iquique mother, I live in Santiago de Chile. I studied Costume Design and I have been specializing in the experimentation of different textile materials, emphasizing portable objects, presenting my work as an exponent of the new layer of Mapuche artists in different places, from the perspective of the diaspora. That has led me to exhibit at the National Museum of Fine Arts, at the Gabriela Mistral cultural center, at Matucana 100, in different galleries in Chile, Mexico and Italy. My constant interest in the rescue of trades and textile techniques, such as embroidery, have led me to participate in various audio-visual projects, such as the Orphan Black series on the BBC and the video "Mi mamá me lo teje todo" of 31 minutes . Parallel to my artistic project, since 2014, I am a teacher of the textile area for students of the career of Costume Design and other institutions such as the National Council of Culture and the Arts.
